Winter 2008 Opportunities

To help high school runners maintain and improve their fitness for the Spring outdoor track season we are pleased to announce the CONDITIONING CLINICS FOR HIGH SCHOOL RUNNERS.

Where: Claude Moore Recreation Center, Sterling. VA 20164
When:  Monday Evenings: Jan 5 - Feb 12 (No class Jan 19) WebTrac code:273704-02, or

Times:  8:00 - 9:00pm  
Age Group: 14 - 18 years
What to wear:  Running Shoes, Running/Exercise Apparel, Warm Ups
What to bring: Water Bottle, Post Exercise Snack
Clinic Fee:  $50 per 5 week session. Sign up for one or both clinics.

Course Content:

  • Training on the indoor track, including warm ups, drills, and workouts

  • Upper body, lower body & core conditioning in the Aerobics Studio

  • Stretching and exercises to improve flexibility and speed

What to Expect:

  • Certified and experienced instructors:

    • Courtney Cornwall – coach, former All American college athlete; 

    • Julie Hayden – coach, teacher, and national class master runner; 

    • Terri Rath – personal trainer, coach, and national class master runner

  • A fun-filled way to either train for the winter indoor season, or prepare for the spring season, or both!

  • Friendly group setting with safe and effective running & exercise workouts

  • Strength training & injury prevention & stretching techniques

  • Advice on preparation for training and racing (nutrition, hydration, dress, mental aspects) to boost your confidence and performance

For athletes interested in competing in indoor track meets over the Winter there are a number of opportunities:

The Prince George's Sports and Leisure Complex has one of the finest indoor facilities in the nation. The schedule for the PG 2008 - 2009 winter meets is:

  • December 28, 2008, 8:30 am
  • January 11, 2009, 8:30 am
  • January 25, 2009, 8:30 am
  • February 1, 2009, 8:30 am
